The Beach School project has begun for Autumn 2016. We have lots of exciting activities planned to complete over the coming weeks. Any parents who would be interested in accompanying the children on this projects are very welcome. Please speak to a member of the nursery team for information.
Nature Walk
Many thanks go to all the parents who came along and joined in with our Autumn Nature Walk. Even though the weather was not on our side we all managed to have a good time looking at the changes all around us during Autumn.
Builder Buddy Dad’s Day
To mark the occasion of Father’s day we transformed the whole nursery into a creative hub for model making and invited dads, granddads and male carers to join us for some building fun. It was a great chance for dads to share their skills with the children. There were some very imaginative models created which I am sure will be treasured for a long time, capturing memories of the special day that ‘daddy came to school’.
Fancy Dress Walk
We organised our annual sponsored fancy dress walk in May 2016 and paraded with our costumes on through Easington. Thanks go to the Colliery Primary School for the use of their hall for refreshments, the Police Community Support Officers for accompanying us along the route and Walkers Crisp factory for the donation of crisps as a reward to all the children for their hard work. The money raised is going towards our school beach trip to Southshields.
Well done to Olivia Ogden and Keaton Marr who won the family ticket to the farm for raising the most money through sponsorship.
Gardening Day Fun
Many thanks go to all the parents, grandparents and carers of the nursery children who attended our gardening day. We received many beautiful new plants and the garden is looking better than every. Particular thanks go to the fantastic effort from the afternoon parents who cleared the wildlife garden area. It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by everyone.
Nursery “Cuddle up with a book” day success
To celebrate female carers and world book day we had a fabulous “Cuddle up with a book” day in nursery. Mums, Grans, Aunties and any significant females were invited to come and share their child’s favourite stories in nursery and share in a cuppa and cake. It was a lovely day and almost every child in the nursery was accompanied by someone special.

Nursery Places
If you are interested in a nursery place please call into Nursery or telephone us to register your interest. Each term we offer new places. We offer funded and paid 2 year old places; nursery education places (15 hours for 3 and 4 year olds) and wrap around services to compliment this and extend the day.
Nursery bonfire
We have been learning about bonfire night in nursery and exploring ideas around how to keep safe. In preparation for bonfire night we had a small fire in a fire bowl in the nursery garden. All the three and four year old children were shown how to be safe around the fire. We used our sense of smell and sight to talk about the fire. We felt its heat on our faces and hands and we explored how fires can make changes to materials including cooking eggs, toast and warming milk for hot chocolate. With an adult to support, each child was given the opportunity to toast marshmallows over the fire. This was a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Beach School Project
The nursery children are thoroughly enjoying participating in our beach school project. They have been visiting Seaham beach on a Tuesday morning and learning lots of new skills. They have been exploring the natural environment, rockpooling, using found materials to create dens and finding out about the world around them. This is a very special project and we have been very lucky to have support from our parent governor Sharon Davies who accompanies the nursery staff and children.
